Nine-Eleven Two-Thousand-and-One

In brief and verbatim from my Facebook status:

Can we please remember that it was Nine-Eleven 2001? It happened 13 years ago, but when last did you see it written 9/11/01?

Our inexplicable collective choice to dis-remember the year of the event is consequential: it permits the terror of ‘9/11’ (and the ongoing violent, fascistic nationalism that cites national security) an undue relevance and ever-renewed persuasive force, as though it happened this year or the last. It’s ridiculously stupid, and dangerous.

If language can easily and succinctly contain more truth, it ought to do so. Use the fucking year.
